FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about the AIRDING Airbag

Is the AIRDING airbag reusable?

Yes, the system is completely reusable. As an end-user, you can insert a new inflator yourself and refold the airbag. Simply follow our video instructions. Then you can continue your ride. Alternatively, you can also use our "Inflator Replacement & System Check" service. This includes a complete inspection of the system and airbags by us. We also take care of refolding the airbag for you. We are not aware of any cases of damage to the airbag yet, but if it should happen, we can replace it for you.

Does the AIRDING Airbag have an expiry date?

We specify a five-year lifespan for the inflators and ten years for the electronics unit. During this time, the backpack can be used without concern. Even after a deployment, the airbag fabric can be independently checked for damage and does not need to be sent in for maintenance. After the specified years from the manufacturing date have passed, we can check the electronics. We will replace the inflator free of charge if you have not had a deployment within this period.

Thus, you can use the backpack for a lifetime.

Does the AIRDING airbag always deploy reliably?

Our airbag systems reliably detect typical fall patterns. In rare cases – e.g., during jumps, tricks, or atypical movement patterns – false deployments or, under certain circumstances, a failure to deploy in the event of a fall may occur. 100% detection/deployment reliability is not technically possible.

Does the AIRDING airbag require annual servicing?

No, the backpack does not need to be serviced annually. Even after an deployment, the airbag fabric can be checked for damage independently and does not need to be sent in for maintenance. Small holes do not restrict the protective function.

I've switched on the system and the LED stays red?

Check whether you have correctly inserted the inflator and whether the safety pin is properly seated. Another option could be the battery. Is the battery charged? You can read the battery level in the Minerva-AS app.

Can I use the AIRDING airbag in the rain?

Yes, you can use the backpack in the rain as it is rain-resistant.

Do I have additional storage space?

Our backpacks feature a small zippered storage compartment on the front for a mobile phone, keys, and similar items. The space on either side of the electronics unit can also be used for storage, for example, for a water bottle or spare shirts.

Additionally, our backpacks have a helmet net, which can be attached or detached from additional storage options as needed. A helmet or jacket, for instance, can be secured in the space, but it also has an additional slip pocket into which even a tablet the size of an iPad Air or iPad Pro can be placed without falling out.

Do I have to replace the gas cartridge after a certain period of time?

For safety reasons, we must specify an expiry date of 5 years. If you do not have a deployment within this period, we will replace the inflator free of charge. We will then recycle your expired inflator.

General Questions

Can I take the AIRDING on the plane?

Download this document on flight information if you want to take the backpack with the inflator on a flight. Register the transport of the inflator with the respective airline before your flight (IATA table). You can find the data in the document.

For the flight, you should remove the cartridge from the trigger unit and place it next to the unit with the black protective cap.

Is there a certification for the AIRDING?

The electronics of all our products have been tested by TÜV Straubing. The inflators have been certified and regularly audited by BAM (Bundesanstalt für Materialprüfung in Berlin). We received TÜV-SÜD certification for the protective effect of our airbag worker protection vest (Opus or Skyvest), which we developed before the airbag backpacks. The protection zones of the chest and neck airbags for the bicycle products and their deployment were tested in cooperation with the company EVOC by TÜV Rheinland. The MASE AIRDING as a product has no separate certification, as the airbags installed in the AIRDING only differ in airbag shape from our other products. The airbags were developed in elaborate test and development cycles in cooperation with LMU Munich and TH Aachen. Due to our many years of experience, we can say with a clear conscience that a safe functioning is given. We install our patented inflation unit, a TÜV-certified electronic unit and trigger device. The AIRDING back protector is also TÜV tested.
