Here's how it works

The heart of the MASE AIRDING is its intelligent sensor technology - developed by MINERVA-AS, the company behind the MASE brand (Minerva Airbag Systems Erding). Born from experience in avalanche airbag development, Minerva-AS is now a pioneer in the development and manufacture of personal protective equipment with airbags. With the Opus safety vest, Minerva-AS has been setting standards in occupational safety for many years.

More than a million hours of operational use in this field provided the basis for our next mission: to create the best protection on two wheels. Through numerous test rides and simulated falls, we were able to collect valuable motion data and incorporate it into the airbag algorithm. Together with cycling enthusiasts, racing professionals, and stunt riders, we developed the MASE AIRDING: lightweight, intelligent, and ready to react in fractions of a second.

Airbag deployment

Our innovative bicycle airbag technology is equipped with several sensors. These check the movements, inclinations, and accelerations on the bicycle 300 times per second. As soon as an unexpected forward, sideways, or backward movement occurs, the sensor automatically triggers the airbag. In less than 150 milliseconds, it inflates with CO₂ gas. Our sensor technology is based on years of data analysis and recognizes typical fall patterns. Nevertheless, no system can guarantee absolute safety. Please note that in individual cases, false deployments or non-deployments may occur.

Back protector

In addition to the airbags, an integrated back protector provides extra protection for the back and spine. All Fusion models are equipped with this TÜV-certified back protector, offering solid protection.
The Compact model also features a smaller, specially adapted back protector that ensures optimal protection with minimal weight.

Together with the airbag, the protector also prevents you from injuring yourself on the cartridge in the event of a fall.

Sensor activation

Closing the chest strap buckle automatically activates the airbag system. If the LED on the chest buckle flashes green, the system is ready for use.

When closing, the functionality and battery level are also checked. If the remaining battery life falls below four hours, the LED signals this by flashing red and green.

Reusability

Should the airbag be triggered, you do not need to dispose of your AIRDING. On the contrary - you only need a new trigger cartridge, which you can easily replace with the old one – and your backpack is ready for use again.

Our products are characterized by being reusable. It is important that you properly stow the airbag back in the backpack after it has been triggered. Please refer to our operating instructions and watch our videos for this purpose. Each backpack is assembled by hand in our production facility in Erding – highest quality and precision guaranteed.

Recharge airbag system

The battery life of the AIRDING system is approx. 25-30 hours when the system is activated (after closing the activation buckle), depending on the model and conditions of use. This runtime refers to the actual riding time, as standby consumption is minimal due to the buckle. A full charge using the included USB-C cable takes about two hours.

MASE APPs

Every AIRDING airbag should be connected and configured with our MASE smartphone app for iOS or Android. With this app, your AIRDING will always stay up-to-date.
